information for 3rd party authors

you wrote it, now let us release it for you! If you have a program, MEX/MECCA script, or other file that directly relates to Maximus BBS software, or the Squish echomail processor, please share it with everyone! To get your file released into the Maximus File Distribution Network (MaxFDN), here's what you need to do:

Make sure your file has proper documentation (at least enough so that anyone can get it running without a lot of screaming and hair-pulling..) Include a FILE_ID.DIZ. Please, no high-ascii, fancy "artwork", or other sillyness in your FILE_ID.DIZ.. these are for -descriptions-, not "art" or BBS-ads.

Archive it, preferrably with PKZIP. (Only PKZipped files can be placed on the Max web page, and in the ftp.vector11.com/maximus/ directory!) Please, no "archiver de jour", ok?

Submitting a file to the MaxFDN

Files may be submitted in the following ways:

  • Via Fidonet file attach to MaxFDN Headquarters at 1:2410/400.

  • Via ftp by uploading your file to ftp.vector11.com/incoming/. Note: If you use this method, please send us email, so that we know you've uploaded a file.

  • Via a email message attachment to garyg at oeonline.com.
(This method will obviously be limited to smaller files.)

  • Sending notification of your file via email. You must include a URL or anonymous ftp site where your file can be picked up. (Yes, we'll even come get it, but only via the internet.)

Submitted files MUST contain either a FILE_ID.DIZ, or be accompanied by a adequate description in the file attach message/email notification. If there's -no- description available, we won't release your program. If you don't know how to write a proper FILE_ID.DIZ, click here.

Caveats:

NO untested beta software. It must work.
NO commercial software.
DON'T include other authors programs in your archive, unless you have permission to do so.

Shareware that's overly "nagging" will also not be released in the MaxFDN.

Again... please make sure it works. We can't release "weekly new updates", as it's unfair those downlinks of the MaxFDN who pay long distance phone charges to carry it.

We, in no way, guarantee that submitted files will be released in the MaxFDN, and final decision to release/not release a file will rest solely with the Coordinators of the MaxFDN.

Note: Files that were previously released in other file echos cannot be then released in the MaxFDN, due to Filebone/Filegate rules pertaining to duplicate files. If you want to target your Maximus or Squish-related files to the right audience, then you should choose the MaxFDN for your releases.

Announcement of newly hatched files:

Files released in the MaxFDN file echo are announced, with moderator permission, in the following international Fidonet message echos:

  • MUFFIN (The Maximus Support Echo)
  • FILE_REQ (The FDN Announcement Echo)
  • SHAREWRE (The Shareware Echo)

How the author benefits...

All releases are not only distributed via Fidonet (over 20,000 nodes in all countries), but also placed on the Maximus Home Page. Because of this, you get unprecedented distribution for your work.

By announcing all new releases, the author gets more "publicity" for their new program, which generates more interest in it.

With our World-wide distribution, and our publicizing of new releases in 3 internationally read message bases, you get the best possible release of your work, and at no charge!

You worked hard to get your program to market, now let the MaxFDN work hard for you!
