about the maxFDN

what you want, delivered! The MaxFDN... everything you need for Maximus & Squish, delivered directly to your BBS!

The FILEBONE is the "File Distribution Backbone". The FILEBONE is similar to the Fidonet BACKBONE (which distributes echomail) except that, as the name indicates, the FILEBONE distributes files.

The Filebone is a group of File Distribution Networks (FDN's) that are distributed by volunteers. An FDN is made up of at least one file area dedicated to moving files through Fidonet compatible mailers for other nodes to utilize. An example of this is the Maximus File Distribution Network, or "MaxFDN".

In order to process the files that come in through the Filebone you will need a file processor. There are many kinds available ranging from free to shareware. ALLFIX, TICK, AND FILEMGR are a few of these programs. They can be found on many of the areas BBS's.

These programs process the incoming "TIC" files that accompany the files and will handle the files much like an echomail processor - putting the files in certain areas, announcing new files, and many other features.

Any Fidonet BBS is capable of handling the MaxFDN (or any other FDN). For information or where to obtain a link to the Filebone, ask around your local Fido Network. Chances are good that someone within your net carries at least a part of the Filebone. If they do, they should be able to get the MaxFDN areas for you.

The MaxFDN is broken up into the following areas:

MAXBBS - Official Maximus & Squish releases
MAXUTIL - Maximus/Squish Utilities
MAXOTHR - Language files, MEX/MECCA scripts
MAXMISC - Misc. files, FAQs, newsletters, etc.
MAXHQ - Upstream to MAX FDN HQ *ONLY*

The MaxFDN is distributed via the The IFDC FileGate Project, who also distribute it to the Fidonet Filebone, paonline.com's FTPHUB, Fidogate ftp service, and the Planet Connect satellite service. Anyone with direct or indirect access to any of these should be able to receive the MaxFDN. Click here to get a copy of the MaxFDN's policy document, in ZIP format.

Any files released into the MaxFDN file areas will be available on our page for a period of at least 20 days. After that, you can obtain them by calling my BBS, or visiting the /pub/Maximus/ directory on the ftp.oeonline.com site.

Additionally, files are available for file request from my bbs. File request "FILES" for a complete listing.
