Lanius is committed to providing year 2000-compliant ("Y2K") versions of our software. All existing users of Maximus are entitled to a free upgrade to the version of Maximus that functions correctly with year 2000+ dates.
To meet our customers' stringent Y2K time demands, we are making a beta version of the year 2000-compliant versions of our software available immediately.
The Y2K portions of this beta software has been tested by Lanius, although some other parts of the programs have not gone through testing that is quite as thorough.
All of the following files contain upgrades to previously-installed versions of our software. YOU MUST ALREADY HAVE A COPY OF OUR SOFTWARE INSTALLED TO USE THESE FILES.
All of these files are also "drop-in" upgrades. No changes are necessary in your batch files or configuration files.
In other words, to install the upgrade, simply unzip the files into your working Maximus or Squish directory.
(Under OS/2, the old *.DLL files may have been copied to your \OS2\SYSTEM or some other directory, so you may have to perform a "search and replace" operation to update those files as well.)
WARNING
These files contain software that has not been thoroughly tested by Lanius. You are using this software at your own risk.
Our software has always stored internal dates in a binary format that can distinguish between any year from 1980 through the 22nd century.
However, for display purposes, our software often uses a 2-digit format for the date. Even though only two digits of the date are displayed on the screen, the full year information is recorded internally.
The only significant exceptions to this rule are the QWK mail subsystem within Maximus, and the *.PKT format used by Squish. These portions of the software must adhere to a third-party specification which uses only 2-digit dates. In these cases, we still use a 1980 pivot to extract the true 4-digit year from the date stored in a 2-digit format.
For date entry, our software accepts dates of the format "yy" or "yyyy". In the former case, our software uses a pivot date of 1980 to determine the correct year. (For example, "79" will be interpreted as 2079, but "85" willl be interpreted as 1985.)
If you have any concerns about our software's year 2000 compatibility, please contact our technical support department.
