Clark Development Announces True PPP Server for Windows 95
Low Cost Server Makes Remote TCP/IP Access Afforable for Windows 95 Users

Murray, Utah - January 20, 1997 - Clark Development Company, pioneers in host communication software products, today announced the availability of a Windows 95 Modem Server program which allows remote users to connect to a Windows 95 computer via modem and receive a PPP connection -- providing a TCP/IP link to the computer that Modem Server is running on, the local area network, an intranet, and the Internet in general.

The Modem Server software supports PAP user authentication without requiring any dial-up scripting; authenticates user names and passwords from a flat file or database (not dependent on the Windows 95 registry); uses TAPI to guarantee compatibility with a wide range of communications hardware, serial cards and modems; dynamically allocates a free IP address to each caller every time they connect; automatically determines network settings by reading the configuration of the installed ethernet adapter from the registry file; and provides extensive on-screen information including the status of each modem, name(s) of the currently connected users, number of bytes sent and received during the connection, and a message window for each device configured with extensive diagnostic messages during negotiation and authentication.

"There are many Windows 95 based Internet server software programs on the market, but no easy way to provide remote dial-up access to those servers, intranets or the Internet with Windows 95," said Steve Klingler, Vice-President of Clark Development. "Several solutions exist which use Windows NT software or expensive RAS hardware, but this is the first product generally available that provides remote-node connectivity under a Windows 95 environment."

The Windows 95 Modem Server software is also included at no charge with Clark Development's MetaWorlds Interactive Information Server software which operates under Windows 95, Windows NT Workstation, and Windows NT Server. Additionally, third party developers may license the Modem Server technology for use with their own server software.
